RIO GRANDE COUNTY AREA
Communities: Del Norte, Monte Vista, South Fork
Rio Grande Country is located along the Rio Grande River at the beginning of its 1885 mile journey to the Gulf of Mexico. Located within the nearly 2 million acres of the Rio Grande National Forest, the area is rich in mineral, timber, wildlife and scenery, perfect for a getaway trip any time of the year.
Within this County you will find three unique southern Colorado towns:
South Fork is home to the "Headwaters of the Rio Grande" with plenty of Gold Medal Fishing. This Town is also known for its year round recreations, from Hiking and 4-Wheeling in the summer to Skiing, and Snowmobiling in the winter. Plus amazing fall colors that flourish along the Silver Thread Scenic Byway.
Del Norte, is the gateway to history and culture, featuring Rock Climbing, Mtn. Biking and a unique downtown shopping experience and the home of the Rio Grande County Museum and Cultural Center. This area is also known for its geological wonders including Penitente Canyon and the Natural Arch.
Monte Vista is located in the heart of the San Luis Valley, which is one of the highest and largest intermountain valleys in the world. Monte Vista is also the home of the annual Crane Festival in March and the Oldest Professional Rodeo in Colorado each July.
Each Town offers plenty of unique gift shops, dining and lodging facilities. So if you are looking for a chance to experience a starry night and want to get away form the "fast lane" come to Rio Grande Country where we would love to welcome you to "JOIN US IN THE GOOD LIFE"!
