Get Away to Baca County

Communities:   Campo, Pritchet, Springfield, Vilas, Walsh

Baca County has the distinction of being the least populated county in Colorado. Its vast open land is the stuff you see and read about in old westerns. Some areas are like the open prairies with sage and yucca spotting the scenery. Then further South are the canyons and hill country. Baca County hosts Crack Cave, a piece of history everyone should experience. On Equinox, the longest day or the shortest day, Crack Cave lights up at sunrise displaying markings made by man before history was kept. Seeing the markings causes a feeling of time lapse trying to imagine who found this extraordinary spot. Visitors come from all over to view the cave, so Springfield, Baca County’s county seat, welcome people with our Equinox Festival twice a year.

Baca County offers a "laid back" rural lifestyle to live in and visit year round. Many organizations and volunteers work hard to keep our county beautiful and unique. Events such as the Equinox Festivals, The County Fair, October’s Moonlight Madness, and Cruise 287 Rod-N-Run Show keep Baca County active and busy working towards the next event.

For more information about Baca County, the history, and the events planned each year, contact the Chamber of Commerce at 719-523-4061 or visit our website at www.springfieldco.info.
